Synopsis
1942. Joseph is 11. It is a morning in June. He has to go to school with a yellow star sewn on his chest… He is encouraged by a neighbor who runs a thrift shop, receives taunts from the baker. Between contempt and benevolence, Jo, his Jewish friends and their families learn to live in Paris occupied by the Germans, on the hill of Montmartre where they find refuge. At least they think so, until this morning on July 16th 1942 when their fragile happiness collapses. From the Velodrome d’Hiver, where 13 000 people rounded up were held, to the camp of Beaune-‐La-‐Rolande, from Vichy to the terrace of the Berghof, La Rafle follows the destinies of the victims and their executioners. Those who organized. Those who believed. Those who fled. Those who resisted. All the characters portrayed in the movie have existed. All the events, even the most extreme, happened during this month of July 1942.
